Hello,
Darn I'm having a hard time lately. Thanks in advance. Something is
very broken. I created a file called /etc/modules.d/ivtv. I have the
following lines in it:

gandalf modules.d # cat /etc/modules.d/ivtv
alias char-major-61 lirc_i2c
alias char-major-81 videodev
alias char-major-81-0 ivtv

modprobe tveeprom
modprobe ivtv ivtv_debug=1 tuner=57,57,57,57
gandalf modules.d #

When I run modules-update nothing ends up in modprobe.conf

gandalf modules.d # modules-update
gandalf modules.d # cat /etc/modprobe.conf
### This file is automatically generated by modules-update
#
# Please do not edit this file directly. If you want to change or add
# anything please take a look at /etc/modules.conf and read
# the manpage for modules-update.
#
gandalf modules.d #

Both files (modprobe.conf and modules.conf) were changed but
modprobe.conf has no contents. modules.conf does.

gandalf modules.d # ls -la /etc/modprobe.conf
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 227 May 31 10:41 /etc/modprobe.conf
gandalf modules.d #

WHY???????????????????? Ownership and permissions are the same for
this file as for all other files in /etc/modules.d.

help...I'm drowning...glug
