Right at the moment I had the same problems.

I solved it by using the following nvidia driver:

 media-video/nvidia-glx
      Latest version installed: 1.0.7174-r4

  media-video/nvidia-kernel
      Latest version installed: 1.0.7174



To install this add the following two lines in /etc/portage/package.keywords
=media-video/nvidia-glx-1.0.7174-r4 ~x86
=media-video/nvidia-kernel-1.0.7174 ~x86


If someone has an idea why  the stable and the actual ~x86 version don't work, 
tell me the cause.
Or if someone has a workaround to solve this problem in a different way tell 
me too.
