Thanks Daniel.
Typing xdm got me back into Gentoo.
The only way I knew to start X was startx.  When startx fails I can not
get to terminal 7.

[EMAIL PROTECTED] ~ $ ps af | grep xdm
19530 pts/0    R+     0:00  \_ grep xdm

Lol, now that I am this far, where do I go next to fix this?
