You mean: Device Drivers ---> Generic Driver Options ---> <*> Serial ATA and Parallel ATA drivers ---> [*] ATA SFF support Symbol: ATA [=y] Prompt: Serial ATA and Parallel ATA drivers I also have a P4 but I haven't yet switched off the deprecated drivers.
