Brilliant! That was the problem. I don't remember installing it
locally but, after removing the Flash library from .mozilla/plugins,
Adobe now tells me it sees 10,1,82,76.
Note that Firefox now also has a "plugins" tab in "Tools->Add-ons" where
you can see the version of each plugin.
