Thanks Richard, I've configured eth0 using net-setup (wired network, fixed address). At the moment I can't send any output of anything. The comp now for about one week belongs to an authorized service partner of Acer. There are messages apout resetting the PCI bus and about a failing and resetting hda in the syslog.
