For music have a look at last.fm[1]. You can enter Artists manually or 'scrobble' what you hear to their website. last.fm then keeps track of what you hear and generates suggestions on what you might like. Lots of media players today support last.fm's 'scrobble' feature. For movies and series you might try trakt[2].
