Hmmm... I guess you're right, although I guess I'd have realized that as soon as I mounted / to /mnt/gentoo and did an ls...

This suggests that your current root (dev/sda3) is big enough to
include the previous /usr (dev/vg/usr).

Yep, plenty of room...

Are you saying you went through this too?

Hopefully a few others will chime in with more on the exact rsync arguments I should use...
