I had the same issue. Solution is simple: update your virtualbox up to the latest (unstable) one or downgrade your kernel to 3.16.x. If you search over Internet you'll find that a lot of people face the same issue with 3.17.x kernel and not only for virtualbox, but also for nvidia drivers. Looks like some sort of broken compatibility without warnings. -- ,,,^..^,,,
