pstree (psmisc) might be some help in unraveling dependencies. I would make sure everything in @system is compiled with the new version of gcc-4.8.3 before updating the rest of the system. If you have another architect compatible gentoo system, you might just copy over key packages and then compile everything else that is broken. Check your version of python too ( and run python-updater if it has changed). good hunting, James
