Do you use an initrd?
Have you tried diffing the configs for the two kernels to look for
potentially relevant differences?
i always use the same config. (make oldconfig)
so, theres no big diff between the configs.
Stepped back to 4.0.6 after reboot all is fine.
On Kernel 4.1.1 pvdisplay vgdisplay show nothing.
I can retry that if you want.
