I am sure that has to do with 5.1 surround coming from the DVD. If you
have a 2.0 sounds system you will have to tell VLC to downsample the
channels to 2.0. If you are using pulseaudio you have to tell pulse
that you only have 2 speakers. I am sure that you have a 5.1 surround
card and that is what it is trying to use.

There's a little investigating to it all but I am sure that it won't be
hard to figure out.
