Thank you Neil, that's one of the first things I tried, but it still starts enlightenment. I have the following in the Session drop down: Enlightenment Plasma XSession Plasma (Wayland) No matter what I choose, I end up launching Enlightenment. However, I set up .xinitrc for this user and then ran startx from a console. The *unbelievably* ugly Plasma5 started this time, so the problem must be with sddm. According to its config file sddm is looking at /usr/share/sddm/scripts/Xsession, which is looking for Xsession scripts at: xsessionddir="/etc/X11/Xsession.d" OPTIONFILE=/etc/X11/Xsession.options USERXSESSION=$HOME/.xsession USERXSESSIONRC=$HOME/.xsessionrc ALTUSERXSESSION=$HOME/.Xsession none of which exist for this user. The sessions directory is: # Session description directory SessionDir=/usr/share/xsessions and this path contains: # ls -la /usr/share/xsessions total 12 drwxr-xr-x 1 root root 102 May 14 21:39 . drwxr-xr-x 1 root root 3582 May 14 23:03 .. -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 229 Dec 5 08:36 Xsession.desktop -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1582 Apr 2 18:14 enlightenment.desktop -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 2109 May 14 21:35 plasma.desktop but as I said selecting Plasma in the sddm session drop down will start enlightenment instead. Another point of pain is that the sddm Layout is US, instead of GB. In other PCs starting to type the passwd causes the layout to change immediately to GB. Not with this one. Finally, this user had a tonne of notes in the PostIt plasma on their desktop. Where can I find the content of this? Setting up a new PostIt plasma widget shows an empty yellow Postit. -- Regards, Mick
