Things tried since last post:

*Flashed the firmware on the drive, bumped it several release numbers...
*Tried waiting out the kernel pause, waited about 4 minutes, some post
just said it was slow by a factor of 30 seconds...
*Searching GooG for gripes about Grub on SSD systems.

No change in symptoms.
