Ha! What do you know? Running it with bash -x in front I was able to execute it ... hmmm ... OK ... it seems the partition had been mounted as noexec ... /dev/sda11 on /data type ext4 (rw,nosuid,nodev,noexec,noatime,data=ordered) none on /run/user/1000 type tmpfs (rw,relatime,mode=700,uid=1000) A clear case of mea culpa!
