I have to set this to get distcc to work (the file is created with root ownership) - not sure why your lockfile is in a different location.

chown portage /var/tmp/portage/.distcc/lock/cpu_localhost_0



What's stranger still is I haven't made any configuration changes. I think I might have figured out the other problem (recompiling glibc now), but I've disabled distcc for now.

I wonder if it's possible to manually specify a lock directory.
