It's only slot collisions if you try to install more than one of them at the same time. But that script does *not* list available versions of libxml2, it lists the stated dependencies of packages depending on libxml2, and if a package depends on '>=dev-libs/libxml2-2.9.3', it will still get libxml2-2.9.10-r4, which currently is the only version available in tree.
