Thanks space weather is out of here, I think. I got a flash drive I can copy make.conf to and maybe share it with the list if I can't figure out what broke. I chose the systemd stage3 file latest version since I've not had exposure to openrc and the other type of system gentoo offers in the past. I know a little bit about systemd.
