True, when I did an emerge recently, it downloaded new kernel sources, but I haven't installed them yet. (This is because I am working on something that has a deadline and I've never updated the kernel in Gentoo before. Despite the fact that the Gentoo documentation is excellent, I don't want to risk making a "boo-boo" and then being at a point where I might have to spend days correcting my mistake.)
