Not an area I have looked into for years now, but Windows Remote Desktop can be configured in “Allow Remote Assistance to this computer” mode, which will not log out the current user. Go to Control Panel/System and Security/System then click on Remote Settings and tick “Allow Remote Assistance to this computer”.
