Technically, no. But this is where I get a bit paranoid, because if you break the libstdc++ dynamic linking, you cripple the system (including portage!). So, I would only prune the old versions of gcc after doing a "emerge -e world" to rebuild *everything* with the new gcc. Oh, and a fix_libtool_files.sh also...
