This worked - sort of.  The image I needed to make background
transparent was a graphic for a web site.  The file name was
JDAAlogo.PNG, so I issued

convert JDAAlogo.PNG -transparent white new_JDAAlogo.PNG

then I scp'd new_JDAAlogo.PNG over to my server box and loaded image
with a black background.  It works great in Linux using Mozilla, but
when my wife tries to view the page in Internet Explorer the image
appears with a white background.  What's going wrong here?  Any ideas?
