There is ONE difference though; I haven't tried "opengl-update ati",
YET.  I'm scared to now, but perhaps that was it. :)

Could someone tell me exactly what the opengl-update script does?  I
could just read it, but it would be easier if someone told me. :)  If
I know what it does, I would be more comfortable with trying it again.
 Then I could recover.

Yeah well, it was a fresh install anyhow, and I just copied from an
existing system.  Not too bad. :)
