That's pretty standard.  From my system:

# mount /boot
# ls /boot/boot -l
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 1 Jan 30 10:46 /boot/boot -> .
# umount /boot
# ls /boot -l
total 0
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root  1 Aug  6  2005 boot -> .
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 80 Jan 31 09:29 grub

Not really sure why that grub directory is in there...

Could boot be on a separate partition?  Check /etc/fstab.
