Another thing you could try is run emerge --metadata or --sync. I don't know if this could be a bug. When I run equery d -a x11-misc/imake I get about twice as much output (including Xaw3d) as you did. So if the problem persists and noone else has a suggestion you might consider filing a bug on equery.
