That's just _one_ of it's many features. 

If you're doing for a Server, then forget about it. For Desktop/Laptops
it's useful. Going forward, nearly _all_ apps will rely on dbus/hald for
H/w status. Eg: Gnome-Power-Manager detects from HAL whether there is
"X" capability or if "Y" has happened etc.
