I am not surprised . . . how can a CD clean a lens unless it has a
little brush and a vacuum cleaner/degreaser attached to it? :-)) Unless it tries to focus the lazer beam so as to burn any dirt off the
lens surface . . . hmm!

So you have to dismantle it. Oh, and put some fat on the tracks if you have it
open. Some old burners get dry there and stop working.

Good point, thanks!  By "fat" do you mean a bit of silicone grease, or
light oil?
