It can take awhile, especially on low powered hardware. However, check what settings you are using in myth to point at the database server. Check DNS operation (often a prime suspect when delays in network ops are seen), use IP instead of hostname, and is a local DB, try localhost and 127.0.0.1 and see if either helps.
