I can't remember the details, but it caused the initial Gentoo install to freeze. I may change it one of these days if I decide to reinstall. >> CFLAGS="-O2 -march=i686 -fPIC" >> > > Ouch. I believe one of the major packages was broken and tried to build a shared library without the flag (which will not work). I'll take it out and try again, but I doubt that is the source of my current problems. >> VIDEO_CARDS="-apm -ark -chips >> -cirrus -cyrix -dummy -fbdev -fglrx -glint -i128 -i740 -i810 >> -imstt -mach64 -mga -neomagic -nsc -nv -nvidia -r128 -radeon >> -rendition -s3 -s3virge -savage -siliconmotion -sis -sisusb -tdfx >> -tga -trident -tseng -v4l -vesa -vga -via -vmware -voodoo" >> > > You have no video card? I have been through half a dozen versions of X and a couple of versions of KDE with it set this way. Once again, I doubt this is the source of my problem. I also have about five other Gentoo systems running and haven't set this variable on any of them. They all work just fine. > Benno >
