Actually ...

    # Should the build use multiprocessing? Not enabled by default, as

    if [ "${WANT_DISTCC}" == "true" ]; then
        export JOBS=`echo "${MAKEOPTS}" | sed -e "s/.*-j\([0-9]\+\).*/\1/"`
    fi

Then later on, this gets passed to configure:

        --with-num-cpus="${JOBS}" \

To sum up, you need to set the WANT_DISTCC variable to use parallel
builds on openoffice because they're fragile.
