besides i cant make the ldap authentication work! if anyone has a helpful piece of advice, it would be greatly appreciated

I installed Gentoo 2006.0 amd64 on a Athlon 64 3000 and i tried to
configure ldap and pam, when i rebooted the "starting udev ..." and
"cleaning /tmp directory ..." scripts caused a humongous delay, 4,5 min
aprox. In the end, the system finally boots, but taking a lot of time!
