My guess is that it's (partly) due to the following definitions in /etc/man.conf: MANPATH /usr/share/man MANPATH /usr/local/share/man MANPATH /usr/X11R6/man MANPATH /usr/local/man MANPATH /usr/man ...because /usr/man is a symlink to /usr/share/man, and at least on some machines /usr/X11R6 is a symlink to /usr. I haven't tried removing the "duplicates" though. The MANPATH_MAP possibly also have an influence. -- Remy Remove underscore and suffix in reply address for a timely response. -- [email protected] mailing list
