Hello all, I've had to rebuild my system after my bonehead mistake of the other day. I used the minimal install CD. The reinstallation is progressing OK, but I'm having problems compiling alsa-driver. And this is what I had installed on this machine previously.
This line is cut from lspci 00:1f.5 Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corporation 82801BA/BAM AC'97 Audio ( rev 05) On trying to emerge alsa-driver, this is the error message that I get: checking for which soundcards to compile driver for... configure: error: Unknown soundcard AC97 !!! Please attach the following file when filing a report to bugs.gentoo.org: !!! /var/tmp/portage/alsa-driver-1.0.11/work/alsa-driver-1.0.11/config.log !!! ERROR: media-sound/alsa-driver-1.0.11 failed. If you need support, post the topmost build error, and the call stack if relevant. >From the above, it looks like my sound card is not being recognized, but I don't understand why. It was recognized before I had to rebuild my system. I followed the link for the ALSA Matrix on the ALSA Guide page and according to what was there, the driver is supposed to be intel8x0, this didn't work and obviously, AC97, which is what lspci shows the card is doesn't work either. This section for config checks was also in the ALSA Guide and I got the corresponding responses when I did this. (Assuming the linux symlink points to the correct kernel) # cd /usr/src/linux # grep SOUND .config (1. is true) CONFIG_SOUND=y (2. is true) CONFIG_SOUND_PRIME is not set # grep SND .config (and 3. is true) CONFIG_SND is not set Any idea what is going on here?
