Yes, I think this is the best solution. That way it'll have profile 2006.1 gcc4.1+ and libc2.4+. There are surely going to be folks that want to install old machines for firewalls, dns servers and such where hopefully the gentoo-devs will not abandon the older hardware? If they do, we'll have to migrate to gentoo-embedded (ulibc) or to another distro.
