OK, replying to myself: I have to use stage3-amd64, because the other 64 bit stage3 is for IA64, and that's Intel. Plain simple. Additionally, I have double checked that my cpu is 64 bit because the "lm" flag is in cpuinfo, along with sse3 and nx. That, plus the lspci "k8" output, defines my CPU as Sempron 64 (AMD64).
