Portage probably left a dir names /var/db/pkg/games-fps/-MERGING-nexuiz-*.
Simply renaming that dir to remove the -MERGING- allows you to unmerge
whatever was already merged...
# cd /var/db/pkg/games-fps
# mv -- {-MERGING-,}nexuiz-*
# emerge -Cva nexuiz
