But if your system has only one CD and not enough memory to load in cache, you're in a pickle. They need to strike a balance somewhere. Problem is, they come out with new hardware so fast nowadays. It's hard for anybody to keep up to date completely. I suspect Gentoo does better than most as far as a distro is concerned, not counting CD based things like Knoppix or something.
