I don't agree, at least not in my case. Yes, I did do an LFS install, but after the first few compiles it became a purely mechanical process where I was entering commands off the howto blindly and not really comprehending what was happening. A stage 1 on the other hand, was just enough thinking about it and what might happen, then let the process rip ahead. I was still interested enough to pay real attention to the outpout on screen and learn from it.
