I'm not certain about your video assumptions. I've just install gentoo on a sony viao (see recent threads) and never got the intel 810 driver working. After extensive googling, the version of the chips does not work with the 810 intel drivers. Lots of people blame sony, but, I'm sure Intel provided a chip that is unusuable with the 810 driver.
