By using an old .config and doing an make oldconfig. After this: make menuconfig and going over the setup to see if I need to change anything (I always change local version to compile date + add. info, if needed). > What does the system log show when you connect the drive (tail > -f /var/log/messages)? Well, believe it or not; it works perfectly today... Very strange, especially since I have _not_ changed anything! The messages I got are nearly identical (address may not be the same) to this output (googled): usb 3-1: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 4 usb 3-1: device descriptor read/64, error -71 usb 3-1: device descriptor read/64, error -71 usb 3-1: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 5 usb 3-1: device descriptor read/64, error -71 usb 3-1: device descriptor read/64, error -71 usb 3-1: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 6 usb 3-1: device not accepting address 6, error -71 usb 3-1: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 7 usb 3-1: device not accepting address 7, error -71 After these the following messages showed up in my kernel log (also googled): USB 1-2: Device not accepting address 2, error -71 (repeats several times trying different addresses) My chipset is i875p (motherboard is Abit IC7 max3) and I have UCHI and EHCI compiled into the kernel (as well as usb mass storage driver and whatnot). The strange thing is that this setup has worked flawlessly until yesterday. And now it seems to work ok again.
