That's a side effect from the fix for this bug: http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=201045 The code was never written to preserve unmerge order, but now that it's been tweaked to do so, it displays a bit differently in cases like this. That's this bug: http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=198200 With <portage-2.2_pre the only solution is to add the versions that you want to keep to the world file, like this: emerge --noreplace =gentoo-sources-2.6.23-r8 After you do that, depclean shouldn't want to remove that one.
