Thanks Alan. Compiling madwifi-ng-0.9.3.3 I get: ARCH mismatch: supplied "x86", determined "x86_64". It's covered here: https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=205116 and the solution seems to be upgrade to 0.9.4. Hmmm.
