Just run: emerge --depclean -a python
You should get something like this:

dev-lang/python
   selected: 2.4.4-r14
protected: none
  omitted: 2.5.2-r7
>>> 'Selected' packages are slated for removal.
>>> 'Protected' and 'omitted' packages will not be removed.

Would you like to unmerge these packages? [Yes/No]
