lshal is telling you that your nvidia hardware is recognized,
but doesn't tell you that the hardware is being used by X.
The best way to tell is to check X.0.log for lines like these:
(II) LoadModule: "nvidia"
(II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers//nvidia_drv.so
(II) Module nvidia: vendor="NVIDIA Corporation"
It says :
