Because wireless networking needs to be downloaded first before it can be used

..and once booted from cd/dvd

$ tce-load -wil gnome-session gnome-maps-gir xf86-video-{ati, intel} [hopefully 
you have ati or intel graphics]
$ sudo /usr/local/etc/init.d/dbus start
$ sudo /usr/local/etc/init.d/networkmanager start
$ startx
