I read the wiki briefly, it says osm tools convert osm data to PostgreSQL format, then it could be manipulated using PostGIS.
I downloaded Nominatim, it does have some code like "postgresql.c" that kind of suggests the use of PostgreSQL. but does it actually use PostGIS (and its "tiger" geocoder)? thanks Yang
