Well, the Great Depression contributed to WWII.  So the worst that
GDII can bring would include WWIII.  At which point none of us need to
worry about the climate.  A less remote risk from the financial crisis
is the de-funding of research and infrastructure for alternative
energy, and a massive switch to the cheapest and highest-carbon
sources of energy.

Obama consistently mentions energy as his top priority.  McCain
generally mentions winning (whatever that means) in Iraq, and his
energy policy consists of "drill here, drill now" (with lip service in
the fine print for some other stuff, but you never get the slightest
impression he's serious about any of it but the drilling).
