Folks,

The idea is that "Climate Intervention" <
[email protected]> will be a tightly moderated group
focusing on "expert level" discussions of intentional climate intervention
from both technical and policy perspectives. The idea is that I will forward
any email that does not meet this standard to the old group <
[email protected]>. The "Geoengineering" google group will
continue to exist for people who would like to entertain wide ranging
discussions related to climate intervention, including "expert level"
discussions that are slightly off topic (i.e., about climate change, carbon
cycle, etc.).

Some people have been having trouble joining the new group (about 100
members now). It appears that google will let me add people one or two at a
time, but not mass additions, so if you are having trouble joining yourself,
let me know and I can add you. The place to try yourself is:

As an example of the kind of thing that I think is good, but is appropriate
for the [email protected], but not
[email protected], I offer the following email that I
have NOT approved at the "Climate Intervention" group. On the other hand, I
think it is entirely appropriate for the "Geoengineering" group:

This is a visual representation of the impact of sea level rise on
cities.

As we begin to communicate with policy makers and others about
attempting to intervene to prevent these impacts, these sorts of
visualizations may be increasingly useful.

-----

This is nice, useful, and interesting, but does not bring new information or
questions about intentional intervention in the climate system to the
attention of experts working in the field, therefore "Geoengineering" not
"Climate Intervention".

Best,

Ken
