Folks, Both the "Climate Intervention" and the "Geoengineering" google groups are now established.
The* "Climate Intervention"* group now has 133 members. ( My guess is that this is nearly all the active members from the "Geoengineering" googlegroup. ) The web page for this group is at http://groups.google.com/group/climateintervention. The email for this group is climateintervent...@googlegroups. com. ( My guess is that this is nearly all the active members from the "Geoengineering" googlegroup. ) The* "Geoengineering"* group now has 219 members. The web page for this group is at http://groups.google.com/group/geoengineering. The email for this group is [email protected]. You can email to one or the other or both groups. I will assume that people signed up for "Geoengineering" are prepared for wide ranging discussions that assume no particular expertise or background. In contrast, I will assume that the "Climate Intervention" group exists to serve the needs of busy professionals who are on the lookout for new and useful information or ideas. For the meantime, I will continue to manage both groups. For "Geoengineering" I will err on the side of letting too many communications through. For "Climate Intervention" I will err on the side of preventing a useful comment from going through. I do not want to hear any more complaints from people in "Geoengineering" that I am not moderating tightly enough, and I do not want to hear complaints from people emailing to "Climate Intervention" that I am moderating too tightly. (Constructive criticism, however, is always appreciated.) Hopefully, this arrangement will meet the needs of all parties concerned. Best, Ken ________________________________________ http://groups.google.com/group/geoengineering geoengineering Discussions regarding proposals to reverse some of the climate effects of greenhouse gas emissions by means of direct intervention in the climate system (for example, by engineering a reduction in the amount of sunlight absorbed by the Earth). * * ---------------------------------------------------------------------- *This** "Geoengineering" group* ( http://groups.google.com/group/geoengineering)* is designed to meet the needs of citizens who would like to discuss intentional intervention in the climate system. *Discussions should touch on intentional modification of climate but may range more broadly. *There is a complementary group called** "Climate Intervention"* ( http://groups.google.com/group/climateintervention) * that is designed to meet the needs of working professionals in academia, research laboratories, and the policy world.* It is recommended that people who are new to this discussion first pose their questions and comments by writing an email to < [email protected]>, and only submit the question or comment to <[email protected]> if the issue is not adequately addressed in the "Geoengineering" group. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Discussions should focus on intentional intervention in climate processes and may consider science, engineering, politics, ethics, economics, or other dimensions. Discussions of proposals to intervene in planetary processes at large scale, or modify climate at any scale, are also welcome. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- GUIDELINES FOR POSTING TO THE GEOENGINEERING GOOGLEGROUP 1. ALL POSTS SHOULD BE RELEVANT TO INTENTIONAL INTERVENTION IN THE CLIMATE SYSTEM. 2. NO POST MAY MAKE AN *AD HOMINEM* ATTACK OR SPECULATE ABOUT SOMEBODY ELSE'S MOTIVATION. THIS WILL BE A LIGHTLY MODERATED EMAIL GROUP. Moderation will enforce these two guidelines and eliminate other abuses ( advertising, foul language, etc ) ____________________________________________ http://groups.google.com/group/climateintervention Climate Intervention Discussions regarding proposals to reverse some of the climate effects of greenhouse gas emissions by means of direct intervention in the climate system (for example, by engineering a reduction in the amount of sunlight absorbed by the Earth). * * ---------------------------------------------------------------------- *This "Climate Intervention" group* ( http://groups.google.com/group/climateintervention)* is designed to meet the needs of working professionals in academia, research laboratories, and the policy world.* It is designed to transmit information and and act as a forum to discuss research results, new ideas, and so on, at the level of an intelligent graduate student in a related discipline. *There is a complementary group called "Geoengineering"* ( http://groups.google.com/group/geoengineering) *that is designed to meet the needs of concerned citizens more generally. *It is recommended that people who are new to this discussion first pose their questions and comments by writing an email to <[email protected]>, and only submit the question or comment to <[email protected]> if the issue is not adequately addressed in the "Geoengineering" group. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Discussions should focus on intentional intervention in climate processes and may consider science, engineering, politics, ethics, economics, or other dimensions.
