To those interested in Geoengineering research. We would like to remind you of the geoengineering session
CL27: Consequences of Geo-engineering and Mitigation as strategies for responding to anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions PLEASE NOTE THE DEADLINE OF 13 JANUARY FOR ABSTRACT SUBMISSION! The EGU General Assembly will be held April 19-24 in Vienna. You can find details of the meeting at the following website. http://meetingorganizer.copernicus.org/EGU2009/sessionprogramme Our session is CL27, a repeat of the very interesting, successful, and well attended session from last year. It can be found under the Programme Group "Climate: Past Present and Future". A pointer to the session is http://meetingorganizer.copernicus.org/EGU2009/session/259 You can submit abstracts from that site. Here are the details of the session: Geoengineering schemes are being proposed with increasing urgency to mitigate present and future global warming. This session invites papers describing scientific and engineering studies related to climate modification through manipulation of solar energy input via processes internal or external to the atmosphere and other geo- engineering approaches. Also welcome are papers with new ideas or analysis of the history of geoengineering, and the policy, cost, ethical and political dimensions of global intervention. Examples of suggested schemes needing further investigation by the scientific community include the injection of reflective aerosols into the lower stratosphere, seeding marine clouds to modify their albedo, placement of mirrors in outer space to reflect incoming sunlight, ocean fertilization to enhance CO2 uptake and more. Proposed techniques may have regional or global scale engineering objectives. Presentations of well-developed designs for laboratory or field experiments are also acceptable. Please pass this message on to colleagues that you think would be interested.
